Yangon will hold a Korean language speech contest next month in order to upgrade language communication between peoples of Myanmar and Korea, the Embassy of South Korea in Myanmar confirmed.
Such contests have been held six times previously in Myanmar.

| The contest is scheduled on Dec. 11 at the Traders Hotel.
It is reported that contestants must be fluent in four language skills and those who win the grand prize and gold prize will be awarded with a scholarship.
Myanmar has a Korean language proficiency test, which covers three levels -- elementary, intermediate and advanced -- and includes five distinct skills: vocabulary, grammar, writing, listening and reading.
The Department of Education at Chonnam National University in Korea is offering to create a Korean language course, testing scheme, and the compilation and distribution of Myanmar-Korean dictionaries.
In addition to Korean language and business management courses, taught by Korean instructors, graduate students from the center can go to further their studies in South Korea. There, they can acquire master degrees, advanced diplomas and higher certifications.
The Chonnam National University of Korea and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry have also jointly established a technology, culture and business education center in Myanmar since 2006.
