Over the past nearly five years, OhmyNews International has been proud to publish some of the finest citizen journalism found on the Web.
Many of you contributed with no expectation of payment and we greatly appreciated the spirit in which you offered your time and writing skills to report from your part of the world. Unfortunately, times are tough for most media outlets globally and OhmyNews is not immune to these financial pressures.
So as of February 1, 2009, OhmyNews International will be discontinuing its cybercash payment system in favor of a monthly selection of three prize winning contributions by our citizen reporters.
There will be one main prize of 300,000 Korean won and two 100,000 won prizes up for grabs. The main prize will be awarded to the article that generates the most "buzz" in a particular month, while the other two will be editor's picks based on the quality, timeliness and overall excellence of the reporting or analysis.
Despite this change, we sincerely hope that you'll continue sending in your stories and contributing to a very special type of journalism. Citizen journalism is yours to foster!
