Four Chile presidential candidates are participating in a novel initiative to use blogs to respond to citizens' questions.

Since last month, the candidates have been participating in what some describe as a pioneering move in Chile. The blog is run by the Fundacion Pais Digital (The Digital Country Foundation).

The subjects proposed to the candidates are related to the objectives of the Foundation: educational and technological innovation.

The candidates already have responded to questions by children and mothers who want computers with Internet access in their schools and homes, computer science professors and entrepreneurs worried about subjects related to technological innovation.

The candidates have not only responded to questions raised by netizens, but also are tackling subjects like military expenditures, delinquency, AIDS prevention, women and young people in the work force and border issues between Chile and Peru.

Center-right candidate Joaquin Lavin has led in commentaries and readings on the blog, followed by Michelle Bachelet (socialist), Sebastian Pinera (center-right) and Tomas Hirsch (center-left).
