Hundreds of people have learned the theory and practise of citizen journalism

The OhmyNews Journalism School, located in a small village on Kanghwa Island (south of Seoul), offers numerous courses on journalism writing, digital media techniques and writing practice, taught in both Korean and English by OhmyNews staff. The following is information on the main courses available throughout the week. Special courses not mentioned here are announced as they become available. Main course, taught in Korean

Friday to Sunday, 30 students, price 120,000 won (~$100)
Title: "Anyone can be a reporter"
Instructors: Mr. Oh Yeon-ho, OhmyNews CEO; Mr. Lee Han-gi, OhmyNews editor-in-chief; and four other OhmyNews staff reporters and editors
Class 1: Mr. Oh discusses the media environment and how citizen journalism fits into the industry
Class 2: OhmyNews staff reporter on Media writing: How to find interesting stories and get them on paper
Class 3: OhmyNews editor: Tips on how to get the most out of your reporting
Class 4: OhmyNews editor: Tips on editing your articles
Class 5: OhmyNews senior editor: Fundamentals of journalism writing; how to write an interesting article
Class 6: Writing practice
Class 7: OhmyNews citizen reporter Kim Hye-won and Mr. Oh Yeon-ho: Reporting as an amateur
Class 8: OhmyNews citizen reporter: Theory of citizen journalism
Class 9: OhmyNews editor-in-chief: One-on-one critique of articles written during the course

Family course, taught in Korean

Tuesdays, 30 students, price 10,000 won (~$8)
Title: "News Writing for Kids and Families"
Instructors: Jo Kwang-suk, OhmyNews editor; Cho Kyung-kuk, OhmyNews editor
Class 1: What is news?
Class 2: Journalism writing; How to find good story ideas
Class 3: Writing tips
Class 4: Practice interview
Class 5: News writing for families
Class 6: One-on-one critique of work produced during the course


Main course, taught in English

Saturday to Sunday, 25 students, price 180,000 won (~$160)
Title: "OhmyNews English News Camp" aimed at middle and high school students
Instructors: Todd Thacker, OMN International senior editor; Guest speaker; OhmyNews editor Cho-Kyung-kuk
Class 1: Class assignment: Interview a buddy
Class 2: OhmyNews editor lecture: Theory and practice of journalism
Class 3: Writing practice 1: Composing the buddy interview
