For the first time in my life, I saw a beauty pageant live. The experience was not as exciting as I thought, rather I felt bored by the middle of the program. The only good thing about it all were the pretty ladies, who looked like dolls.

Bikkil Sthapit, a friend of mine and representative of the official Web site of the Miss Teen Nepal 2006 beauty contest, friendsandtrends.com gave me a journalist's pass.

Technically speaking I was nearly 30 minutes late when I arrived at the venue, the Birendra International Convention Centre (BICC) in Kathmandu. The pageant was scheduled to start at 4 pm, but as usual in Nepal the program began much later than planned, so I was actually 15 minutes early.

The pageant started off well but then it got worse and worse. All the organizers seemed to be interested in was going up on stage and distributing countless so called "tokens of love" to sponsors, and "tokens of appreciation" to all those who helped them.

What made it funny was that some of the recipients were waving their "tokens" as if they had received an Oscar. Nearly 60 percent of the pageant was taken up by this nonsense.

Khusboo Oli bagged the title of Miss Teen Nepal 2006. When asked by chief judge Diwakar Rajkarnikar which she valued most out of health, wealth and education, she replied:

"Education is more important because when you are educated, you are aware of all the health measures which make you healthy and wealth is only obtainable if you have education. Education brings satisfaction and satisfaction is key to a healthy, wealthy and prosperous life."
