One of the many bands whose set I was lucky enough to catch on Saturday at the All Points West Festival was a band from New York, by way of Leeds, England, called Your Vegas. Your Vegas' sound can be best described as '80s new wave mixed in with good old fashion rock and roll. I got a chance to have a brief phone chat with Your Vegas frontman Coyle Girelli this past week and here is what he had to say.

| How did it feel for you guys to play the first ever All Points West Music Festival?
It was awesome! It was the last of our American festival spots and it just very cool.
How did you guys feel about your set at All Points West?
It went great! We were a little tired only having had a couple of hours of sleep and it was the end of a long week and we got up there and put on a show! And it was a real thrill to get up on stage and see the New York City skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Out of all the bands that played on Saturday who did you enjoy seeing the most?
Well … Radiohead! We played with them on the same day at Lollapalooza, we got to see them at Lollapalooza and then we got to see them again at All Points West. And they were just so amazing!
They were unreal!
They really were!
You guys are touring in support of your album A Town and Two Cities. How is this tour going?
I guess this is our first solo tour, which has been really cool. We've toured America in supporting spots for months so far, we did two tours … four months with the Bravery that was our first time round America and we got on with the guys from the Bravery real well. And then we did a tour with Duran Duran in North America for six weeks.
What was touring with Duran Duran like?
It was amazing! We were able to play with them every night and hang with them, ask the questions and get their opinions on things and that was pretty inspirational and special. Playing in the arenas to so many people and really feeling like every night we won the crowd over and making new fans was a really great feeling! Now we're out on our own, which is cool as well.
For all the people who weren't lucky enough to see Your Vegas on this tour or at All Points West, can you describe Your Vegas' sound?
It's a mix of a big driving, melodic, soulful indie rock. We take a lot of influences from all over the place. For this record we took a lot of early '80s influences such as Simple Minds, U2 and INXS but also a whole lot Springsteen and a whole lot of Petty and a lot of other Americana type of music as well.
Your Vegas is based in New York now; how much of New York inspires Your Vegas' music?
A lot, I've always thought inspiration comes from what is around. A lot of the songs on the first record are written in and about the town we're from, Leeds. There is so much life in our hometown as well … there is so much diversity, from the homeless, to the mega rich, to the buildings, to the tumbling warehouses. There is so much to take in all the time! It's as inspirational as New York.
The last question! What can we expect from Your Vegas in the near future?
The future for Your Vegas is more touring and we'll still keep building this record till it breaks here and we'll go to Europe and do this record properly. And in the meantime, while we're going through all that we're already writing the next one. So in a year and half we'll do the next record and outsell this one and then do the one after that and outsell that one. We're very driven and ambitious with what we want to achieve as a band and artistically so. There is a lot to come!
